What is a Carotid Angioplasty?

Carotid Angioplasty is a procedure to open blockage in blood vessel of neck, which supply blood to the brain.

In which patients is Carotid Angioplasty needed?

Patient who have stroke with weakness of one side, slurring of speech, deviation of mouth or loss of consciousness and their carotid arteries are blocked.

What is the procedure of Carotid Angioplasty ?

Opening the blockage in central vessel with a balloon and a metal stent by passing a wire through a puncture in groin vessel.

Is it a painful procedure?

No. Only a needle prick is needed and there is no need of any cut or blood
transfusion. We use local anesthesia for the procedure.
How much is the hospital stay?
Patient is kept for one day after procedure for cardiac monitoring and IV medications.

What are the precautions after procedure ?

We have to take medicines as advised by doctor. Salt & Fat restriction with regular exercises, control of BP and Sugar level is required after the procedure.
