Expanded role of Embolization in treatment of various disorders
Endovascular embolization is a nonsurgical and minimally invasive procedure. The basic logic behind this procedure is to deliberately block the blood supply of a specitic part of body by purposely injecting emboli. This procedure provides an attractive alternative for surgerv in treatment of various disorders like uterine fibroid causing menorrhagia, uterine AV malformation, Postpartum Hemorrhage, interactable haemoptysis, haematuria, symptomatic benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH).
UTERINE ARTERY EMBOLIZATION (UAE):
UAE is a non surgical and a relatively new approach to treat symptomatic uterine fibroics.
Symptoms of Uternire Fibroids
- Generaily in age group of 40 yrs and more
- Prolonged bleeding during menses
- Pain abdomen or feeling pressure

- Ultrasound Abdomen 2. MRIAbdomen
Management
- Surgery 2. Uterine artery embolization
Otherrndications:
1. Severe bleeding caused by trauma, Z. Severe bleeding caused bv SYMPTOMS OF BPH: postpartum hemorrhage
Advantages Ofuae Over Surgery:
- Minimally invasive procedure.
- Minimal blood loss
- Short recovery time
- No abdominal scars, the recovery time is much shorter than for ysterectom
- General anesthesia is not required.
- Treats all fibroids simultaneously
Results:
Technical success -95-100%, Clinical Rediological (decrease of the fiboid size) -75-80%
